One Habit You Must Give Up To Be Happy

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

3616898946 14583a91db 300x199 One Habit You Must Give Up To Be HappyAbout six weeks ago, Tim took two new jobs.  Neither job is ideal—in terms of hours, money, or the work itself—but jobs are jobs, and we need income.

For the first month or so of Tim’s new 7-day a week work schedule, we struggled a little to accept our lifestyle change.  For years, we’ve worked together at home and enjoyed the freedom of setting our own hours.  It was tough to accept having a couple companies dictate our schedule.

Tim dealt with it better than I did.  He’s good at finding what Abraham-Hicks calls positive aspects (the upside of the situation), and he decided to enjoy the challenge of learning his new tasks.  He also focused on enjoying the variety of people he met. Still, even as I felt a profound sense of loss, as if I was grieving the life we’d thought we created and had to let go to deal with our present circumstances, I saw that Tim’s energy was lower than I’d seen in awhile.  He said he was okay, but his body language and manner said different.

I knew we needed to do something to shift our point of attraction.  Our vibrational frequency was lower than it needed to be to match our desires.  What could we do? (more…)

The Appreciation Game–How To Feel Better RIGHT NOW

Friday, August 20th, 2010

250674118 8a292861b0 262x300 The Appreciation Game How To Feel Better RIGHT NOWWhen a whole lot of yucky things are going on in your life and you’ve sunk to the bottom of the emotional scale and you know you’re out of alignment with what you want, what can you do to feel better right this minute?

Abraham-Hicks teaches many processes that can help improve your emotional set point and thus your alignment, but sometimes things can get so overwhelming that it’s tough to summon up the oomph to do any of the processes.  Sometimes, visualizing and journaling and whatever else is just too much trouble.  And remember, if it doesn’t feel good, it’s not helping.

So what can you do when you feel this bad?

What Are You Looking At?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

50257242 d2cf4beee6 200x300 What Are You Looking At?Tim and I are in our car.  He’s driving. I’m gazing out the passenger side window.

Tim says, “Is he any good?”

“What?” I ask.

I have no idea what he’s talking about.  We haven’t been having a conversation.  We’ve been riding in silence.

“Is he any good?” Tim repeats as if hearing the question again will clear it up for me.

“Is who any good?”

“Him,” Tim waves a hand toward the windshield.

“What?  Who?” I look directly in front of the car for some invisible “him” I’m supposed to evaluate.

“The sign.” Tim waves a hand toward the windshield again.

My gaze extends further ahead.  I see a banner hanging across the road. It announces Clint Black’s upcoming performance at a nearby casino.

“Clint Black?” I ask.

Tim nods.

I give him my opinion of Clint Black, for what it’s worth, and I ask him what made him think I would have any idea what he was talking about.  He says, “I figured you were looking at what I was looking at.”

DA DUM! Did you hear that big orchestral crescendo that denotes something important? (more…)

It’s Not All the Same To Me

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I know the law of attraction is one of the energetic laws that bring order to the universe.  I don’t believe it.  I know it.

Even though I know it, however, I have doubts.

These doubts aren’t about the existence of the law of attraction. They’re about my understanding of how to think and feel in a way that makes the law of attraction a positive force in my life instead of a negative one.

The basics of law of attraction’s impact on us are simple:

1.     Think thoughts that match up vibrationally with what you desire.

2.     The better a thought feels to you, the better it matches up with things you want.

Simple … but at least for me, it’s the most difficult thing I’ve ever attempted to learn how to do. (more…)

The Ahhh Effect

English Springer spaniel expand your vocabularyIt’s a Scrabble day.  Most Sundays, Tim and I manage to get in a game of Scrabble.  I won last week, not that I care one way or the other.  For me, it’s all about getting the best word scores I can in each turn.

Last Sunday, I had the seven-letter word, “unmined,” on my tray.  I looked all over the board and couldn’t find a place to play it.

Before my turn, I’d realized (excuse the indelicacy but I share it to make a point), that I needed to pee … badly.  I thought I could wait until the end of my turn, but as I scanned the board for a place to put my wonderful word, my bladder kept vying for my attention.  I wasn’t comfortable.

So I put aside my lap desk and went into the bathroom.  Ahh, better.

While I was up, I got a drink of water (must refill the tank), pet Ducky, and looked outside at the trees.  All of these things felt good. (more…)

Who’s Hanging From Your Antenna?

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Last week, Popeye Ballu, one of the Springer spaniels Ducky follows on twitter, posted a link to a picture of three Springer puppies. The puppies were Popeye’s sons, and they were celebrating their first birthday.  Since the picture was adorable, I sent a message to Popeye asking if he (or rather, his person) would e-mail me the picture to use on The Joyful Springer.

Popeye’s person sent me the picture, and I e-mailed her back asking for the names of the puppies so I could put the names in the post.

I didn’t get a response.

Three days later, Tim and I were in the car, on the freeway, heading to Costco.  I told him about Popeye Balu and said that I might put the photo on the site without the puppies’ names because the picture is so cute.

Within 20 minutes of talking about Popeye’s puppies, we passed a pick-up that had a Popeye the Sailor Man figure hanging from its antenna!!!

Whoa.

I haven’t thought about Popeye, the cartoon character, in years.  But of course, he popped into my head when I mentioned Popeye, the dog’s, name.  And then there the character was hanging on an vehicle antenna.

Great law of attraction evidence.

But it’s more than that.

It got me thinking about antennas.

Which got me thinking about vibrational frequencies.

Which got me thinking about my thoughts.

And that’s when I realized that I’m a walking antenna.  We all are.  We’re human antennas.

Abraham-Hicks often uses the analogy of a satellite dish to explain how we align with what we want.  We need to line up our thoughts with what we want, i.e. point our dish at thoughts that are a vibrational match to our desires.

Since we are our thoughts (we act from them, they create our reality), we are in essence flesh and blood antennas.  This is how law of attraction brings experiences to us.  Our antenna (i.e. US) puts out our attraction frequency.

And most of us have something hanging onto us.

Just like Popeye hung from the pick-up’s antenna, each of us has some character hanging from our vibrational antenna.  We’re not aware of the character, but he or she is there.

We may have Popeye or Tweety Bird or Mickey Mouse or Darth Vader or Goofy or Superman or well, you get the idea.  The character hanging from your antenna is your default attitude, the way you typically process the world.  Your vibrational attraction point is that attitude.

Tim says his character is Garfield … because Garfield is laid back, unique, doesn’t care about what others think of him, and he loves lasagna (one of Tim’s favorite meals).  He admits that a character with a bit more positive energy could be useful.

My character, I think, has been Scooby Do for a long time.  I tend toward the goofy side.  I’m a whiz at creating fine messes.  I LOVE food.  I’m loyal and care about people.  I’m curious, eager, but I scare easily.  I think a character with more confidence would be in order.

Obviously, this is all in good fun, but if you think about it, there’s some truth here.  You have a sort of base program that runs automatically in every situation you’re in.  It’s your habitual vibration, the program you run when you’re not deliberately choosing your thoughts.

Being aware of that program’s content is a good idea.  If an angry or controlling or fearful character hangs on your antenna, it’s impacting your reality.  Thinking about what that character is and making a conscious decision to change it by reaching for better feeling thoughts can have a big impact on what comes into your life.

I’ve been shifting my thoughts, consciously trading in Scooby Do (sorry Scooby) with Hampton Monroe, the eager, fearless pup who stars in the Puppy Jones animated shorts.  If I ever develop enough drawing talent to render a respectable Ducky, I’ll hang her on my antenna too.

Who’s hanging on your antenna?  Are you going to keep him or her?  Who will you choose instead?  I’d love for you to share your characters.  Other readers may learn a thing or two from your choice.

Oh, and Ducky would love for you to check out her Twitter page.  She has a title now that she’s very proud of.  If you want a smile, follow her on Twitter to see her “wise and waggy” (her words) tweets.

Too Much Thought

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Last week, I let wise dog, Harry Fryer, know that I had used his photo in a Funny Law of Attraction Evidence post.  When I told him about it, I explained law of attraction.  He commented, “I is not sures it works, Ande, cos I is thinkings abouts jumbo bones ALLS the times and I is hardlys evers gets one.”

Harry tilt

Handsome Harry’s observation is quite profound.  It brings up a critical point about the law of attraction, a point I misunderstood for a very long time … hence the messes in my life.

The law of attraction has come to stand for the idea that our thoughts create reality.  And the essence of that idea is true.  Our thoughts DO create reality.  They create reality because they have a vibrational frequency, and the law of attraction matches up like vibrational frequencies.  So you attract to you experiences that match up with the vibrational frequency of your thoughts.

What I misunderstood and what I think most people still misunderstand is how to activate that vibrational frequency that matches what I want.  I thought I had to actually think about what I wanted.  So I did.  Like Harry, I thought about what I wanted all the time.  And like Harry, I didn’t get what I wanted.

So what’s the deal?

Why does thinking about what we want not bring it to us?

Here’s a little story to explain what’s wrong with all that thinking:

I Want a Cheeseburger and Fries

You walk up to the counter in a fast food restaurant.  You say to the indifferent teenager behind the counter, “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

The teen nods and punches in your order.

You say, “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

“I got that,” the teen says.

“I want a cheeseburger and fries,” you insist.

“Yeah, I heard you,” the teen says.

“I want a cheeseburger and fries,” you repeat.

“Dude, what’s your problem?  I heard you.  I got it.  Now give me $2.72, and I’ll get them for you.”

You hand the teen $2.72, AND you say, a little louder, “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

The teen frowns.  He looks around to see if he’s on Candid Camera.

You frown because you’re starting to get annoyed.  Where’s the beef … and cheese and fries?  You enunciate the words carefully: “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

The teen turns around and waves the manager over.

You look at the manager. “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

“Dude keeps saying that,” the teen says.  “Took the order already.”

A line of people has formed behind you.  They’re grumbling.

“I want a cheeseburger and fries,” you shout.

“If you’d just stand over there and wait quietly, we’ll get your order,” the manager says.

“Move it,” the person behind you says.

You dig in your pocket and pull out a piece of paper.  “See?  I have it written down and it’s on sticky notes I have all over my house.”  You hold out the paper, which reads, “I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

The teen rolls his eyes.

The manager throws up his hands.

The person in line behind you shoves you.

You plant your feet.  You throw back your head and bellow, “I WANT A CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES!!!!!”

The manager picks up the phone and calls the police.

You start a chant:  “I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.  I want a cheeseburger and fries.”

More shoving.  You close your eyes.  You don’t know why you don’t have what you want yet, so you’ll meditate on it.  You visualize a cheeseburger and fries.”

The police arrive.

The next thing you know, you’re wrapped in straight jacket, and you’re being carried from the fast food place.

The teen cancels your order.

“But I want a cheeseburger and fries,” you mutter as they take you away.

The Universe Heard You the First Time

Now, obviously, the universe, or God, or divine energy, has a more going on than a disinterested teen in a fast food joint, but the universe is just as willing to put in your order … and it’s just as willing to cancel that order if you start making a scene.

How do you make a scene?  By thinking over and over and over about what you want.

Why is that making a scene?  Because every time you think about what you want, you are doing it from a place of awareness that you don’t have it and you’re activating a vibrational frequency that matches up with not having what you want.  So what will the law of attraction bring?  You not having what you want.

You know that feeling you get when you’ve wanted something for a very long time and you don’t have it yet and you feel trapped by your current circumstances?  I sure know that feeling.  That’s the straightjacket that you thought yourself into by putting your order in over and over and over again.

The universe heard you the first time.

You didn’t even have to say what you wanted out loud.  The minute a desire is born within you, it is on its way to you.  It is granted.  Just like that.  Your life experiences give rise to a desire and voila, it’s created just for you.

So how do you get it?

By following the manager’s advice:  “stand over there and wait quietly.”  In other words, go about your business.  And what’s your business?

Finding the good feelings you’d have if you already had what you want.

You can do that by specifically taking on the identity of what you want to become or you can just do that by feeling good … period.

So, Harry, the reason you don’t have more jumbo bones is because you want them so much.

And the reason I didn’t get what I wanted in the last few years is because I wanted it too much.  I thought too much.

I’ve stopped thinking about what I want.

Why should I think about it?  I’m too busy feeling like I have it.

Are you thinking too much about what you want? I love comment and welcome yours..  To leave a comment, click on the “comments” link (it will say “No comments or “1 comment” or more) at the end of the tags in “Posted in” at the end of this post.
