Non-physical Beings Don’t Hang Out On Their Buts

Ducky swimming 029 300x199 Non physical Beings Don’t Hang Out On Their ButsDucky and I were about halfway through our morning beach walk when a water-sculpted board caught my eye.  About the size of a chair seat, it had an undulating pattern that mimicked the surf.

My first thought was, “I could do something cool with that.”

I bent over to pick it up,

Ducky, carrying her usual driftwood “baton,” raced toward me.

Anything I pick up is cause for Ducky’s eager curiosity and much barking and leaping because it could possibly be a potential object for fetching.  Not willing to face the full onslaught of her enthusiasm, I hesitated.

I was drawn to the board.  But did I really want to carry it back to the car, especially with Ducky dancing around me trying to convince me that the board was hers?

The board intrigued me, but when would I really get around to doing anything with it?  We really don’t need more junk.

I left the board where it lay and went on with my walk.

Two days later, I met up with Susan, a regular beach walker whose Westie terrier tolerates Ducky’s exuberance.  Susan was carrying my board.

Yes, my board.  I actually experienced a proprietary twinge when I saw it tucked under her arm.

Then I smiled.  “I almost picked that up the other day,” I told her.

“Isn’t it wonderful?” she enthused.  “I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I just love the motion in the wood.

Yeah, so did I.

And why didn’t the board go home under my arm?

Because I hung out on my but.

First Thoughts

If you’ve been learning to live in awareness of the law of attraction for long, you know that what makes things happen in your life is 99.9 percent thought and .1 percent action.  And you know that action effectively gets you what you want when it’s “inspired action,” action that is aligned with your nonphysical being—that part of you that has already become all that you desire.

And what is inspired action exactly?

One author (I wish I could remember who but I don’t) calls inspiration “first thoughts,” and I think it’s a good label for inspired action.

Your first thoughts are your initial, clear, fear-free inclinations—the ones that bubble up from your authentic self, your nonphysical being.  These are the “high risk” thoughts—the ones that tell you, for example,  to quit your job even when you don’t have anything else lined up or to move in with your new love even though you’ve known him or her only for two weeks.  I’m not saying that these seemingly “rash” actions are always the right ones, but if they’re your first thought on the subject, they probably are.

First thoughts are the ideas that spin you up.  In that instant before doubt sets in, first thoughts turn on your juice.  They light you up.

Our nonphysical beings only offer first thoughts.

Because we’re physical beings, though, our egos always pipe up as soon as the first thought is out there.  And what they have to say is:

“Yeah But”

“Yeah but if I quit my job without lining up something else, I could run out of money.”

“Yeah but my new lover and I may not be suited to each other, and we may hate each other after we move in together.

Yeah buts usually have a partner:

“What If”

“What if I don’t find another job and end up homeless?”

“What if my new lover is really a closet serial killer?”

Yeah But + What If = UNinspired Action

When I found that board on the beach, both “yeah but” and “what if” blew past my first thought of how much fun I could have making something out of that board.  “Yeah but I’d have to carry it back to the car.”  “What if I don’t think of anything to do with it and it just adds to the clutter.”

I wasn’t listening to my nonphysical being.  I didn’t honor my first thought, and therefore I didn’t take inspired action.

And someone else got that great water-sculpted board.

The universe is constantly offering up opportunities that can help us create the lives we desire.  Law of attraction puts first thoughts in our heads all the time.

I think that when our desires seem a long time in coming, we need to take a look at how often we’re hanging out on our buts.  Looking back at the last few years of my life, I can see clearly how my buts kept me out of the Vortex where many of my desires were lining up for me.

Who knows where that board would have led me if I’d picked it up?  I won’t know because now Susan has it.  And I’m happy for her, and actually I’m grateful that she picked it up because that instant of “hey-that’s mine” annoyance showed me what I’ve been doing in many areas of my life.

How many times have you let “yeah but” or “what if” keep you from inspired action?

I suggest you pay attention to how often you hang out on your but.  And as James Brown says, “Get up offa that thing.”

And with that, now go listen to your first thoughts.
