It’s Enough

English springer spaniel fill your bowl 281x300 It’s EnoughThe other day, my mother brought me the May 23 newspaper comics page so she could show me Classic Peanuts (I don’t subscribe to the paper).  In the strip, Snoopy sits in front of his dog bowl, his tongue hanging out.  He’s thinking, “Empty! And I’m dying of thirst.”

In the next frame, Snoopy carries his bowl in his mouth.  In the third frame, he sits in front of an outdoor faucet, his bowl in his mouth, holding it positioned under the faucet.  The next frame is identical.  The next frame, he looks away from the faucet with a worried expression.  In the next frame, he’s back to staring at the faucet, patiently holding his dish beneath it.

In the next frame, rain starts to fall.  In the next, the rain is heaver.  Snoopy still holds his bowl under the faucet.

In the next frame, he carries his bowl through the rain.  In the next frame, he drinks water from the bowl.  In the next frame, the rain stops, and he sits back.

In the final frame, he lies on top of his doghouse thinking, “That’s one I’m going to have to think about for awhile.”

Unlike Snoopy, I didn’t have to think about it for awhile.  I got it immediately.  It was the guidance I’ve been wanting.  Thank you, law of attraction.

A few days before Mom brought me that comic strip, I watched an Abraham-Hicks  DVD, Think And Be Slim. In the DVD, Abraham explains the process of using action to improve vibration.

Since they usually advise the opposite—use improved vibration to make action more effective—they got my attention with this process.  What they suggested was that if you wanted to do something like lose 50 pounds, for instance, you create a sort of balance sheet on which write what you want to have happen on the way to losing the 50 pounds.

For example, on the sheet, you’d have “lose 50 pounds” on the far right.  On the far left, you’d put some little action you feel like you could take now, like “drink more water.” You fill in the gaps between with various actions and milestones that will occur along the way to losing the 50 pounds.

They explain the process as it applies to debt as well.  They tell people to list all companies to which they owe money, and then they tell people to focus only on the first thing on the list.  You work on paying off the first debt and only that debt.  They said that when people do that, giving no thought to all the other debts, something always comes along to help clear those other debts.  They get an inheritance or a raise or win money or whatever.

As Abraham says, doing this one little thing “is all you can do, and it’s enough.”

Let’s look at that again:  “It’s all you can do, and it’s enough.”

This process didn’t create any big ahas for me with regard to debt.  Tim and I are paying into a fund that will be used to settle all our credit card debt over time, and it’s all we can do.  So far, it hasn’t been enough, or so it seems at this point.

But with regard to weight, the process appealed to me.  I made a list of things I wanted to do or have.  I want to get back to a point where I eat healthy like I know how to do, but I’m not there yet.  I want to get back to working out regularly, but I’m not there yet.

So what can I do?  I came up with two things:  I can use the chi machine regularly and I can dance five minutes a day. Little things, but it’s all I can do.

I started doing these things, and sure enough, just as Abraham promised, I felt a little better about my body.  Little actions.  Improved vibration.  Obviously that will lead me to something better then something better then something better.

But ….

On the subject of money, specifically creating the income I desire, I still didn’t get how this process would help me.

What is the little action I can take?  How is it enough?

Then Mom brought me that comic strip.  And there was the answer.

The Snoopy Method of Manifestation

Let’s look at what Snoopy did.

  • Contrast (thirst) created a desire for water.
  • Snoopy took a little action (carried his bowl to the faucet).
  • Once he took the action, he waited in anticipation and expectation (stared at the faucet).
  • He had a moment of doubt (that one frame of worry).
  • He returned to expectation (looked back at the faucet).
  • The universe brought him what he wanted (it started to rain).

Here’s are the two crucial aspects of the Snoopy process:

  1. Snoopy only took ONE action.  When it didn’t immediately get results, he didn’t try anything else.
  2. Snoopy’s original action didn’t result in him getting what he wanted.  The water didn’t come through the faucet. Rain brought the water. Snoopy could have stayed on top of his doghouse with his dish and waited for rain.

Why did this process work?  Because taking the action he took shifted Snoopy’s alignment.  It put him in a place of eager expectation of what he wanted.  The law of attraction did the rest. That improved vibrational alignment brought him what he desired.

The place that I’ve messed up with regard to money (and this is a mistake I’ve made over and over and over again) is at that moment of doubt.  Whereas Snoopy immediately redirected his attention to his expectation after that moment of doubt, I use doubt as an impetus to take more action.

If I’d been Snoopy in the comic strip, after that moment of doubt, I’d have started pounding on the faucet with my dish.  I’d have started pawing at it.  I’d have left the faucet and started running around looking for someone to turn on the faucet or fill my dish.  I would have barked and howled.  In other words, I would have started taking misaligned action.

This is what I’ve been doing for several months.

I took an inspired action last fall after I discovered my financial situation.  I took my water dish to the faucet (wrote a manuscript).

But water (money) didn’t come.  I panicked.

So I took more action (started another manuscript).  No water.

More action (looked for freelance work). No water.

More action (revamped my e-book program).  No water.

Last week, I was utterly enervated.  I had to struggle to do everything I did.

Now I know why.  My inner being wants me to cease and desist.

I’ve brought my bowl to the faucet.  I have a completed manuscript.  I have blogs.  I have an excellent e-book and audio program.  It’s time for me to stop and expect the universe to do the rest.

And the money I want may come from none of the actions I’ve taken.  I finally GET that (of course I’ve understood it from an intellectual standpoint, but for some reason, I haven’t integrated it into my experience).  I don’t need to look at what has or hasn’t happened with respect to the actions I’ve taken.  I don’t need to look at submission results or traffic to sites or sales or anything.  Those results don’t matter.  What matters is I’ve done what I can do.  And it’s enough.

And now it’s time to allow the universe to do the rest.

I’ve done all I can do, and it’s enough.

Snoopy understood that.  Now I do too.

The photo is of my dog, Muggins, who passed away in October last year at 17 years old.  In the photo, she was 10 weeks old; she brought her empty water dish to me, dropped it in front of me, and planted her foot in it. She knew that was all the action she needed to take to get what she wanted.

Ande— I am speechless. Reading your words took my breath away because just this morning when I was going to the gym at 5:30 to workout I was thinking about you and I was having a conversation in my mind about talking with you. I was talking with you about what you have been going through and my main point to make to you was that, Hey Ande, you have done what is before you, you know all about LOA, you have to allow the Universe to do its thing. You have done your thing and now its time for the Universe to do His. Those were my my exact words. Amazing. The bible says, out of the mouths of two or three witnesses every word is confirmed.
I just feel that you know this stuff better than I do and better than most of the people on the Internet that I have read and its just time to completely surrender and let the Universe do the rest.

  2. Ande Says:

Thank you, Greg. That’s great testimonial to manifesting with imaginary conversation. :) I appreciate it! I got more bad news today, so I have nothing left to do but let go and let the universe do its work.

    Another amazing entry!

Years ago, I had taken my daughter to a counselor – they were convinced she had an eating disorder. The counselor confided privately, as if it were a serious problem, “Your daughter is a magical thinker. She thinks things will magically turn out.” Oh, dear! A Magical Thinker! Where have I gone wrong?

Truth is, she did NOT have an eating disorder, and Source bless her, like her mom, she IS a magical thinker. I just KNOW there is a magical switch (thank you Universal Manager) that will enable me to release excess weight that once served me well… and I have given it over to the Manager (LOA). I don’t “worry” about “eating healthy” or exercising more – I know that the guiding principle is MY ATTITUDE about what I eat or how I move . . . or when I release what is no longer desired – and how I line up with what I do desire. I’ll let the Manager do the rest.

And in the meantime, I am enjoying life in this magnificent physical body! And my daughter is doing fabulously. : )

What a powerful, little comic strip and a powerful description and explanation of it. I’ve been getting “let go” messages for some time now, but have been too afraid to do it. For me, it’s been the most challenging aspect of creating consciously — trusting enough that I’ll be not just ok, but fabulously well if I just let go and allow my good to come to me. It makes so much sense. I (little me) don’t know everything, I can’t know everything with my limited consciousness. Why not let Source, the Manager, LOA, whatever you wanna call it, take care of the details of getting it to me while I relax and allow ? The key is not letting “conditions,” “what-is,” “external reality” knock us off our stride and cause us to doubt or worry so much that we push our good away. Thanks so much, Ande, for helping me understand a little more how to go about letting go.

And Lauri, thanks for your perspective as well. Alignment and allowing – a great combination!

These are just wonderful, relevant comments, one and all. And a wonderful, insightful blogpost, Ande.

The other day, Marked asked me why on earth my book, Soulsongs, isn’t on every coffee table in America. (Ha — he is my biggest fan!) I told him I didn’t know why we haven’t sold more copies of the book over the few years since it was published, but I’m putting a little bit of my Soulsong writings “out there” every day and I consider that to be enough. The rest is up to the Universe and its managers and fairies. If they can’t do it, it can’t be done. But I think they can do it — in all of our cases. In fact, I’m darn sure. :)

What a perfect example of the Snoopy method, Lauri. :) And BIG congratulations to you for raising a magical thinker. We should all be so blessed as your daughter is to have a mother like you!

  8. Ande Says:

I think it’s the toughest part of the process for us action-oriented physical beings, Patrice! And you’re right that the key is not letting “conditions” etc knowck us off stride.

  9. Ande Says:

Your Mark sounds like my Tim, who expected all my books to be bestsellers when they came out. ;) We are blessed to have such men in our lives. And I believe like you do that getting it out there is our work and the rest is up to the universe WHEN we can get in alignment with the big success. Obviously, that’s still work I need to do.

“I’ve done all I can do, and it’s enough.” HUGE power in those words for me, Ande!

Thanks for sharing this story. The cease and desist inspiration hit home, too.

    You rock!

  11. Ande Says:

Thanks, Jeannette. Back at you! Your blog post was the perfect extension of what I wrote here and helped me tremendously!
