Non-physical Beings Don’t Hang Out On Their Buts

Ducky swimming 029 300x199 Non physical Beings Don’t Hang Out On Their ButsDucky and I were about halfway through our morning beach walk when a water-sculpted board caught my eye.  About the size of a chair seat, it had an undulating pattern that mimicked the surf.

My first thought was, “I could do something cool with that.”

I bent over to pick it up,

Ducky, carrying her usual driftwood “baton,” raced toward me.

Anything I pick up is cause for Ducky’s eager curiosity and much barking and leaping because it could possibly be a potential object for fetching.  Not willing to face the full onslaught of her enthusiasm, I hesitated. Read the rest of this entry »

Reality? What Reality?

July 21st, 2010

4305695575 998118a52c 300x199 Reality? What Reality?Think you can’t ignore something that’s right in front of your face?  Think again.

Last week, thanks to my reader, Mary, I watched a youtube yoga video that teaches breathing exercises and postures that help with weight loss.  Because it felt like inspired action to watch the video and because it felt easy and comfortable to write down the routine and plan to do it, I decided to start a short version of the routine.

One of the exercises in the routine is alternate nostril breathing.  This is something I used to do, and whether it helps with weight loss or not, I couldn’t say, but it is calming, and I wanted to get in the habit of doing it again. Read the rest of this entry »

On Par With The Law Of Attraction

July 18th, 2010

2683636260 8e04662487 238x300 On Par With The Law Of AttractionLouis Oosthuizen.  Ever heard of him?

Most people haven’t.

Even my golf-obsessed husband hadn’t heard of him … until this weekend.

The British Open Golf Tournament started in Scotland on Thursday and ended today.  It’s a big deal in the golf world, one of the four “majors,” (most important tournaments), and at the start of the tournament, the golf world had its focus on the big players like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Louis Oosthuizen (pronounced west-hi-zen—the Open announcers were so unfamiliar with him they didn’t get it right) didn’t care what the rest of the world was focused on.  He was focused on winning. Read the rest of this entry »

Law of Attraction Is Kid Stuff

July 16th, 2010

Ducky and daddy with caption 223x300 Law of Attraction Is Kid StuffDucky turns one year old in a week.  Hard to believe.  I can still close my eyes and feel that warm little ball of wiggles I held in my arms when we brought her home last October.  Tim says he vaguely remembers being able to carry her around.  She’s now almost 45 pounds of mostly spring-generated muscle.

Since Ducky is my greatest and most consistent source of joy (she’s sort of like a cannon that shoots me into the Vortex), I decided to spend a couple bucks for the props to stage a good Ducky birthday picture for The Joyful Springer (it will be on the site on the 24th).   So a few days ago, Tim and I stopped in Wal-mart to get a birthday hat and balloon. Carving Out Something New

July 3rd, 2010

3730465178 e41aff2edd 300x199 Carving Out Something NewA few days ago, Tim and I met with an attorney and provided him with all the paperwork and information he needs to prepare to file my Chapter 7 bankruptcy.  Before that appointment, I had about three weeks to get used to the idea that last year at this time, I thought I had more than $50,000 in the bank and no balances running on my credit cards and now here I am filing bankruptcy because of something dumb that my own husband did, something that ran up all my cards and ran down the bank account.

I realize now that I’ve spent the last ten months in shock.  When you think you’re trucking along doing just fine and then you get gobsmacked with a “what is” reality that seems to have erupted from the ground beneath your feet like a malevolent alien, shock is a reasonable response, for sure.  But it’s not all that helpful to stay stuck in shock for a long time. Shock isn’t exactly a positive vibration. Read the rest of this entry »

Law of Attraction Results Are Indicators

July 1st, 2010

It seems a good time to throw out a few of the fun synchronicities that have gotten my attention in the last couple weeks.

27 Dresses

One evening, I was channel surfing during the commercial of a show I was watching, and I stumbled across the movie 27 Dresses.  I saw the movie a couple years ago, but when I saw it on TV, I thought, “I like that movie.  I’d like to see it again.”  Then I switched the channel back to my show and forgot about the movie.

Two days later, Tim came home and said, “I got the movie, 27 Dresses, from the library.  I thought we might watch it again.” (I am married to that rare breed of man who actually enjoys romantic comedies.)  Tim hadn’t been in the room with me when I’d seen the movie on TV, and I hadn’t said anything to him about it.

Bubkes

One night, I stumbled upon a list of Yiddish words that are in mainstream usage.  I tested myself to see how many I knew, and then I tested Tim.  He didn’t know many of the words, which is understandable since his vocabulary is just 4 years old, but when he missed the meaning of “bubkes,” I was surprised because that’s actually a word I use from time to time.  (In case you don’t know, bubkes means “nothing.”) I teased Tim about his knowledge of Yiddish words, which I told him was bubkes, and then I picked up the novel I was reading. Two pages into my reading, one of the characters used the word bubkes.

Guy Finley

One afternoon, I listened to a Guy Finley audio about releasing fear while I did some marketing odds and ends on the computer.  As the audio was drawing to a close, I received an e-mail that contained a message from one of my Facebook groups.  The message contained Guy Finley’s “Ten Traits of the True Spiritual Warrior.”

Financial Improvement

I began writing about my ideal financial life on a Saturday.  By the following Wednesday, events that I did not orchestrate at all had removed a couple big monthly financial obligations, so our monthly budget was reduced by $1500.  Definite financial improvement.

Estallela

Last Wednesday, I sat in the car waiting for Tim and I spotted a sign for a doctor with the last name Estallela. I puzzled over how to pronounce it before remembering that he was my mother’s ophthalmologist, and then the pronunciation came to me.

Later that evening, in my novel, one of the characters was named Estallela.

Have you noticed how often events in my real life show up in the novels I read?

Tilapia

Last week, a friend posted a recipe for tilapia on her food blog.  I’d never tried that fish, so the recipe got my attention.  Four days later, we got together with my parents, and my dad started talking about tilapia.  I’d never heard him talk about it before.

Fort Warden Information

Because my mother knows that Tim and I love Fort Warden in Port Townsend (that’s where he proposed to me), she gave me an article she found on the Fort.  The day after I read it, I was working on a writing project of mine.  I mention Fort Warden in one part of it, and I realized I needed a couple facts.  To get them, all I had to do was snag the article out of the recycle bin.  Talk about timing!

Eagle 177x300 Law of Attraction Results Are IndicatorsEagles

Tim and Ducky and I are blessed to live in a place where deer, raccoons, opossum, and other critters roam our neighborhood and where eagles soar above sparkling water.  Last week, Tim said he saw the eagles by the bay again.  He said one of them took off and he was mesmerized by the grace of its flight.  “I’d like to see close-up pictures of eagles,” Tim said, “and learn more about them.

The next day, Tim dug through our older movies to find something upbeat to watch.  He pulled out Continental Divide and told me he didn’t remember it but that he did remember I said it was cute.  “Do you want to watch it?” he asked.  I said sure.

Because Tim didn’t remember the movie, he didn’t know that the main female character lives in the Rocky Mountains so she can study bald eagles.  When the eagles appeared on the screen, in close up, Tim said, “Wow, I was just saying I wanted to see this.”  Yep, I thought.

The next day, I stopped to talk to a woman by the bay, and she told me she’d taken a couple visitors to the Ocean Shores Interpretive Center, a nature center that features displays of the variety of flora and fauna found in our area.  She said, “Did you know they have a little area to watch DVDs?”

I didn’t.

She said, “One of the DVDs is a really awesome one about eagles.  It’s just amazing.”

I smiled.  More eagle pictures for Tim.  He asked.  He received.

Most of the law of attraction results we get are tiny things, little synchronicities that seem to have no relevance to the big things we desire to have. I’m convinced, though, that these little results are indicators of our creative power.  When we pay attention to them, they can give us a huge incentive to keep our thoughts focused on what makes us feel good.

You might try making a list of all the little results you notice. It’s sure better than noticing what hasn’t shown up yet.

An Instant, A Flower, A Surf

June 29th, 2010

surf2 300x253 An Instant, A Flower, A Surf

I have a life-long pattern that I am in the process of breaking.

What I used to do was this Do-not-do-this-at-home-or-anywhere-else Process:

  1. Begin thinking positive thoughts about my life or about something I want.
  2. Get antsy and impatient when, after a few days, nothing changes.
  3. When something negative happens, put all my attention on the negative event.
  4. Lament the fact that positive thinking and the law of attraction “doesn’t work.”
  5. Feel really, really bad.
  6. Say, “See? I was right” when more bad stuff comes my way.

I can vehemently say that this process creates nothing worth talking about. Read the rest of this entry »

The Draw Of The Vortex

June 27th, 2010

Fawns 300x213 The Draw Of The VortexIn 1996, when I moved to the beach, I bought a book, Drawing For Dummies, because I thought that now that I was going to be a free-spirited divorcee, I would try my hand at art.  But I was so busy walking on the beach and writing that the book sat on the shelf.  Until 2008.

After my accident in 2008, I spent months off my feet and much of that time, I was on pain meds that clouded my thinking. I didn’t do much writing or reading.  Something about my pain or the painkillers or the shock of the accident disconnected me from my usual link with words.

Still, I craved creativity.  I wasn’t content to just watch TV or listen to music.  I wanted to bring something to life. Law of attraction reminded me of that book on my shelf. Read the rest of this entry »
